Assignment Brief
We formed groups to begin with the final project called "Sex Education 101". I'm in group 1 which consists of a total of 6 members.

Brainstorming phase
After going through its contents, we identified the sensitive and challenging contents then had to brainstorm ideas amongst our group on how we are going to adapt it visually which suits the general public.
We separated the 17 topics into 6 parts which were evenly distributed amongst the 6 group members including myself. I chose to do topic 1-2 which were the introduction and puberty.

Moodboard & Storyboard Phase
The purpose of the moodboard is to identify the different elements that we will be including into our animation eg. the art style, the colour theme, the fonts used, types of transition styles and deciding on the character design. We do this in the beginning to avoid having to have a clear vision which is more time effective and a smoother process. During this time, we would discuss what's needed to be changed and what is needed to be maintained. I feel that we were able to provide one another constructive feedback.
The storyboard phase is just a draft containing sketches of each frame connecting to the script. This allows us to envision how the final animation would look like and whether it would fit. Keep in mind that the sketches would most likely not be the same as the sketch due to amendments to fit the flow.

We were then told to proceed with the animatics. My group had a zoom meeting after class to discuss specific animatic breakdowns for each line. We then distributed the animatics task evenly and compiled it together at the end.

The video below shows the final animatic(compilation of animatics done by all members). This is just the sketching phase to have an overview of what it'll look like before the finalised illustration and animation, this is a good way of telling whether it'll come together of would need further amending.

Illustrating & Animating Phase
We separated the workload through grouping. 3 of us were in charge of illustrating(with the 3 animators providing minor assistance) and the other 3 were in charge of animating.
To get the work done quicker, Part 1(1A-10) was broken down into 3 parts and distributed between illustrators, then the animation team animated it. When completed, the process repeats with Part 2(11A-15B). Completed illustrations and animations were placed in our groups google drive files to keep things arranged and easily accessed by all members. All of the finished scenes were compiled together.
Illustrating
We thoroughly went through the script together in order to identify elements which will be repeated in certain frames. The screen grab above shows all the illustrated repeated elements.

I had chosen to do frames 2E-4(Part 1 distributed between 3 illustrators). After completion, we placed it in a group file under "final frames"

Separation of each element in each scene
For convenience and efficiency reasons for animators. Makes the job less messy and easier to work with.

Note that some frames may be missing as it was animated in After Effects. This is because we feel that certain frames are better understood and done straight in After Effects eg. story book flipping at the start.

Final Outcome
I'm very satisfied with how the video turned out. It was hard work but all worth it from the things I've learned from my team mates as well as from the challenge of this topic.

Week 1 & 2(none)
Week 3
- Amend script breakdown(duration of each frame should fit the audio and illustrations)
Week 4
- Nicely done, easily understood by children and not too explicit for parents to explain/ show video to children. Visualisations are humorous and well executed.
Week 5
- Reuse certain illustrations to make the work easier.
- Ensure use of effective panning(zooming in and out).
- Balance out the composition(ensure it isn't too heavy on one side).
- Reduce amount of text
- Rearrange certain aspects to fit the narration

- Adjust composition for donut chart & text(period cycle)
Week 7
- Little girl morphing into an adult woman
- Show the full anatomy of the boy(0:48)
- Use easy ease for board game scene
- Apply motion blur to all frames
Reflection
This project was fun but challenging to work with especially when it touches on sensitive topics such as sex education which is lacking in countries such as Malaysia.
The part I disliked about this project was that some parts of the script content was messy so hard to work with. I just wished it was better arranged in its narration. The process was tedious especially the pre-planning and actual execution. It took a lot of patience but in the end we pulled through. I feel that I have developed skillsets such as knowing to do thorough research and planning prior to finalising illustrations and animations to make the composition overall appealing.
I am happy with my group mates as unlike other traumatic group experiences which consists of free riders, this group was highly participative, a fun bunch and took the necessary initiative for the completion & success of this project happen.
