FLIP 1 - Different Types of Infographics & Online Tools (6/1/2022)

Group Task

Group Task Instructions/ Specifications

On the 7th of January, we had set up a group meeting to discuss the group task. We decided on the theme of the slides, the types of infographics which we were to research on and which of the types of infographics each of us would work on. We ended the discussion with a recap of what's needed to be done. The task load was evenly distributed amongst the 6 group members and on the very next day(8th) the slides were complete. We then recorded as a group on zoom to present the slides. The completed video was then posted on YouTube as instructed on the 9th.

Individual Task

Individual Task Instructions/ Specifications

The type of infographic that I have decided to go for is a Timeline Infographic as I feel that I am more comfortable with doing this type since I've done my research on it in the group task. I also chose to focus on the timeline of making the sourdough starter and finally the bread as I have first hand experience in this process of making sourdough.

The Last Sourdough Bread Recipe You Ever Need

This is a poorly constructed infographics poster, this being a Timeline Infographic that I found on Google. It shows the days involved in the bread making, evidently through "Thursday Evening - Friday - Saturday". The personal rating I would give this is 4/10. I feel that this is a badly designed timeline infographic as it looks bland due to its design and colour scheme. It also looks messy looking due to the squiggly arrows which makes the directions less clear. Moreover, the timeline is not very specific and is not clear in which process it applies to.

I rate my redesigned version an 8.5 out of 10. A 4.5 point increment compared to the badly designed version which I have found. Why? I am more detailed on the process of creating the starter as well as the bread making. I have specified the duration through days and hours relevant to each process. The colour scheme and font used is more classy and also more systematic in its appearance. Furthermore, the clove shapes on the background resembles the scoring on the surface of the bread, making it aesthetically pleasing. Lastly, the type of timeline infographic I used is the Vertical timeline infographic where in my design it can be seen that the information is viewed from the top to the bottom.

The program that I have used to redesign it is Canva. The program itself is not difficult to use and people who aren't familiar with using it, will adjust to it quickly. Canvas is also very useful in my opinion in effectively creating slides which are easy to work with. Moreover, theres is a wide variety of design templates which gives users more than enough choices to pick from depending on what type of information they are trying to produce and the appearance that suits the user.

Instructions
- Mr. Martin went through the motion graphics slides and told us to complete the tasks provided. The tasks consist of finding 3 professional motion graphics with Rationals and Inspiration. This is applied for individual work.
- We were then told to create a mood board as a group. We should also select style frames for 3 most challenging scenes.

Individual Task for Practical

1. Do I Wanna Know by Arctic Monkeys

Rational - The genre I enjoy is along the lines of indie pop and the visuals/ video plays a big role in enticing the audience to want more.

Inspiration - I am inspired by how the art style was kept consistent but has so much variation. The style imitates sound waves produced by the song itself. The visuals created by the sound waves tells a story, much like how the lyrics of the song tells a story. So this all comes together as one cohesive piece.

2. Why do we dream?

Rational - Ever wonder why you dreamt of something but had no explanation on why? I do, a lot. This motion graphic animation is highly insightful and satisfies my unanswered questions on the reasons why we dream.

Inspiration - The childlike/ witty way of illustrating the visuals alongside with the explanations made me watch the entire video without blinking. The colours, the drawing style, everything was good.

3. The psychology of narcissism - W. Keith Campbell

Rational - This video focuses on the psychology of narcissism. This may help people be more aware of the exhibition of the signs as well as to understand the good and bad aspects of it. Why I chose this is that I have learnt and always enjoyed Psychology and the theories.

Inspiration - The style used was sleek, humour was also incorporated while maintaining the informational aspect of it. The flow was smooth as it went through a brief history of where the word came from, the signs of narcissism and so on. At the end of the video, I learnt something new.
