Project 1 : Audio Editing

Exercise 1 - Audio Dubbing

For week 4, we were assigned to add sound effects and audio dubbing on a muted video clip from the animated film, "Soul".

I started off by taking a look at videos of the scene itself. I then proceeded to record my voice(for most of the human characters and the cat). I recorded it sentence by sentence as the pacing would be hard to nail. Recording it in short clips enabled me to have more control over the speed in relevance to the characters mouth and body movements.

I then looked for sounds effects from https://freesound.org/

- Cat meowing

- Little girl giggling

- Woman laughing

- Soft wind(background)

- Leaves falling onto concrete ground

I noticed that every character now had the same voice(mine) which made it boring and confusing as you do not know which character is speaking. I researched on how to change the pitching of the voice dub and learned how to incorporate the pitch shifter. I felt that the use of pitch shifter made such the differentiation of each character is now legible and fits the gender of the character being portrayed.
